Tomorrow is the First Day of Fall!

1st Day of Fall & 7 Ways to Prepare Your Home for Winter

🍂 Tomorrow is the first day of Fall! Is your home prepared for the cooler temperatures? Here are seven easy ways to keep your home efficient this fall and winter!

  1. Weather stripping is a good way to seal in warmth and keep out the cold! This easy fix can be picked up at almost any hardware store.
  2. Clean your gutters! This will help to keep rain water away from your roof. If they become blocked with debris and ice, water could find it’s way into your home
  3. Evaluate your roof for ice dams. Escaping heat can cause ice to melt and re-freeze over your roof leading block drains and even damage. Prevent this by making sure to insulate and ventilate your attic.
  4. Buy a roof rake, as well! An average roof can handle around 4 feet of snow before becoming stressed. However, if left undisturbed, packed snow could cause your roof to collapse.
  5. Prune trees around your home. Another easy fix that could save you from a headache later! Prune the surrounding trees before the winter storms hit!
  6. Stock up on basics! Have necessary supplies, food, and medication ready in case a major storm hits. Thinking ahead could save you from crowded stores as bad weather rolls in. Learn more here about alternative heat sources.
  7. Protect pipes from freezing by allowing them to drip during bad cold snaps. Also make sure to insulate exposed piping and to caulk any cracks or holes in your walls to prevent freezing. If they do freeze and water stops flowing, call a plumber immediately!

How Much Car Insurance Do I Need?

How Much Car Insurance Do I Need?

The first question may agents get is “well, how much car insurance do I need?” To answer this, clients must first consider their assets and financial situation. Auto Insurance only provides coverage up to policy limits. As a result, you’re personally responsible for damages beyond those limits related to any accident you cause . This is a key consideration, especially if you have assets you want to protect!

Third-party liability coverage

Third-party liability coverage pays damages that you cause to others in a covered loss — up to the limits chosen. When selecting those limits, it’s important to know the value of assets you want to protect.  Add up the value of everything you own, including your primary and vacation homes, savings and investments, cars and recreational vehicles, and also any collectibles. Ideally, you should choose liability limits that are high enough to protect the total value of these assets.

Comprehensive and collision coverage

If your car is damaged or totaled, would you be able to pay the costs of repair or replacement out of your own pocket?  If not, consider taking out comprehensive and collision coverage! Your lender may also require these coverages for any financed or leased vehicles.

We’ve can help you get the coverage you need! Call us today at 661-542-7007 to start your quote! Also ask about our Farmers Friendly Reviews!

Car Safety Tips for Toddlers!

3 Car Safety Tips for Toddlers

👩👧 According to the US Dept. of Transportation, in 2015, car seats saved an estimated 248 lives among children under the age of 5! Here are 3 important car safety tips for toddlers:

  1. Avoid car seat mistakes! Up to 73% of parents fail to install and use car seats properly. The seat should not move more than one inch in any direction. If you can pinch the strap between your fingers it’s likely not tight enough, but don’t over-tighten! Also remember that bulky clothing can make it difficult to properly tighten straps.
  2. Rear-facing is best! The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) suggests you keep children in a rear-facing seat until they’re at least two years old. It’s five times safer! But always remember, each seat has specific height and weight limits for rear-facing so always follow instructions.
  3. Booster seats? Without a booster seat, an ill-fitting seatbelt can cause more harm, than good. Children should use booster seats until they’re at least 8 years old and/or 4 feet 9 inches tall. However, always check your state’s laws, as the requirements may vary.

A Written Will & Life Insurance

What is a Written Will?

A written will is a legally enforceable document that provides instructions as for property distribution after your death. This may include instructions on issues such as ownership of real estate, guardianship of children, and distribution of money. To ensure a will stands up to legal scrutiny, it’s important to work with a lawyer, have two witnesses present, and have the will notarized. In general, for a will to be valid, you must be in sound judgement and mental capacity at the time you sign it and, in most states, you must be at least 18 years old. Be sure it’s clearly marked as your will, and kept in a safe, but not hidden. Consider sharing its location with one or more trusted people in your life.

Elements of a Will

  • Assets – What you are willing: Bank accounts, credit cards, investments, retirement funds, properties, life insurance benefits, annuities, IRAs, and 401(k)s.
  • Beneficiaries – Who you are willing to: Spouses, children, or other family members, or even organizations, friends, or strangers.
  • Guardians – Who should care for your kids: Often the surviving parents. However, you’ll also need to pick a legal guardian should something happen to both parents.
  • Executor – Who makes sure this happens when you’re gone: This person is named in the will to ensure that your estate is divided up as you have outlined it. They will also be responsible for paying any debts that are in connection with your estate and distributing your remaining assets. Your executor will also be the one to fill paperwork with the probate court to prove your will is valid.

The name of the game is safety, precaution, experience, and honesty! Whatever your hobby, make sure to get certified or licensed, wear all possible safety gear, and tell your insurance company everything. If you do it right, your life insurance company may be willing to back up your activities!

When To Buy Life Insurance? Today!

When To Buy Life Insurance

When to buy life insurance? Today! If those you love depend on you, life insurance could be the most significant purchases you’ll ever make!

Life insurance can help provide for your loved ones’ financial needs after you’re gone. Whether for their families, spouses or even essential business partners, people purchase life insurance to help those they care about. You can also give your family secure financial futures with Farmers New World Life Insurance! Life insurance proceeds provide money directly to your beneficiaries to help your family pay bills or fund a child’s education. These policies can also protect a spouse’s retirement or assist aging parents if you’re no longer able to care for them.

Policies For Every Stage in Life

  • Single: Even if you don’t have anyone depending on you financially, those you love could be impacted by your end-of-life expenses. Additionally, purchasing life insurance when you’re young will likely get you a better rate!
  • Married Young Adults: You may not have children yet, but if you’re the breadwinner in your family you should still consider life insurance. If you’re caring for a parent or elderly family member, a life policy could be especially important.
  • Married with Children: It’s important to consider life insurance for both the primary earner and a stay-at-home parent. Life insurance could help pay for the wide range of services that a stay-at-home parent provides, as well!
  • Single Parent: Life insurance proceeds can help provide financial assistance in the event that a family’s sole caretaker passes away.
  • Empty Nesters & Retirees: Many retired couples depend on Social Security and pension income to survive, but when a spouse dies those payments may be reduced. Many of the ongoing expenses remain the same for the survivor, and they may still need to pay off a mortgage or other debts. You can help protect your spouse with life insurance, so a personal loss does not become a financial one as well.
    • Life insurance may also be part of your legacy-planning strategy or designed to help grandchildren accomplish important goals, such as completing a college education.
  • Business Owners: Life insurance has a number of benefits for business owners. First, it’s a valuable employee benefit and can help a business owner attract and retain employees. Second, key employee life insurance could assist in the event of the employee’s death. This type of life policy can help make it financially possible for the business to hire and train a replacement. Life insurance proceeds can also help the surviving partner or family members purchase a deceased owner’s share of the business.
